The Sugar Season is upon us. What to do? Succumb to it and try to get back to your health goals in January? Or, what if there is one thing you can do, right now, that will help you have less cravings?
Eat Fat.
It is just that simple.
Fat is literally the trigger that helps you feel full and satiated. Without it, you are going to go for sugar all day long. Sugar is the kindling for the fire. If you only keep the fire going with kindling, you are going to have to eat sugar all day long. Fat is the log you put on the fire so that you can go for a long walk, wrap all the gifts in a marathon session, or just make it through the movie without needing to snack.
Here are a few snack ideas to help you feel full, satisfied and not go for every cookie:
1) Avocado
Half an avocado with lime, sea salt and cayenne, this was a combo from a client of mine years ago and still MY FAVORITE.
2) Coconut Oil with Your Tea
Start or end your day with a cup of tea and a spoonful of coconut oil. This is a great alternative to the sweet treat at the end of the day.
3) Bulletproof Coffee
People rave about Bulletproof Coffee for a reason. It keeps you full and satisfied for hours, not to mention more energy, clearer thinking and so much more.
4) Coconut Treats
½ cup coconut butter
½ cup nut butter (I love sunflower seed butter, but almond butter works beautifully too)
Melt over low heat and pour into lined mini muffin cups and freeze for 20 minutes.
Add chopped nuts, coconut, chocolate chips and sea salt as desired.
5) Filling Holiday Treats
This was a post I did a couple of years ago, please disregard the horrible photos! But the recipes are still great!
